Bahirdar
 
Bahir Dar first rose to important in the late sixteen or early seventeen century, when the capital of Ethiopia was located in the vicinity of the lake. During the reign of the Emperor Susneyos (1606 – 1632) it attracted the interest of Jesuits, who erected a tall (for that time) two storey building in the compound of Saint George’s church. This place of worship was renowned far and wide so much so that the settlement was often spoken of as Bahir Dar Georgis. Bahir Dar for centuries has been a place of commercial importance. It was and still is visited by tankwas (papyrus canoes) make by a lake side people called the Woyto who ply these craft across the water of the lake. These ride boats were, and still are constructed at Bahir Dar and in the near by fogerra area.
   
 
Debre Damo      

Debre Damo, one of the most prominent and historic among Ethiopia’s twenty thousand plus churches and monasteries.
Debre Damo monastery was built in the 6th century by Abuna Aregawi, one of the nine Saints who taught Christianity in Ethiopia. Aregawi had a vision of an isolated place ideal for a solitary life. The construction was sponsored by Emperor Gebre Meskel and, according to the local legend, with the help of a huge snake.

 
 
Addis Ababa  

Addis Ababa- the “new flower” is set at the foot of the Entoto Mountains. It is centrally located with in Ethiopia as a capital city should be. It is to here that all roads lead.

The altitude varies from 3000 meters (9840 feet) at the top of Entoto to 2200 meters (6800 feet) at the foot of the city.

The temperature ranges from 14 degree centigrade to 18 degree centigrade. 80% of the yearly rainfall occurs between mid- June and October during the big rains.
